When a person is recovering from drug addiction they are in some stage of refraining from taking that drug. It is a process that takes a lifetime and it starts with rehabilitation and detoxification, joining a 12 step program and participating in support groups for self discovery and personal development and growth. Successful addiction recovery occurs in millions of people every day, they go on to live happy and normal lives. Others never get the help they need or are unsuccessful in their recovery efforts. Recovery begins with a person admitting they have a problem, most addicts live in denial. Without cooperation and a committed attitude recovery cannot occur. It is a process that starts with admitting you have a problem and moves into learning about the addition and principals to practice. It is a process where an addict actively engages in a program to help them from using any substances that alter their mood. It is like a disease and it can be fatal. People are now treated medically as well as psychologically. There is no cure for addiction but keeping it in remission is the way to overcome it. Some people stay off of drugs and alcohol without assistance but their relapse odds are high. The process is not easy and much has been written about it. It is a process as there is a lot to learn. Things in an addicted person's life should be closely looked at and changed to ensure they maintain a clean lifestyle. There are steps to take to ensure one stays clean. Being honest and willing to take action is important. Assessment and evaluation to determine the type of rehabilitation is needed. Attending classes and meetings are crucial. There are many programs to enroll in to stay clean. Addiction recovery can include a 12 step program but it may not work for everyone. All options should be evaluated and considered before committing to a program to make sure it is the right one for the individual. |
